When my nephew was about 15, he was elbowed in the head accidentally during a basketball game at school.  He was very sleepy and lethargic that night and my cousin (his mother) took him in to ER.  He had brain surgery that night.  He had either an epidural hematoma or sub dural hematoma (I can't remember which) but would have probably died without quick medical attention...........mb
