[RC] Shavings in Trailer suggestion - Sheila_Larsen

Well I have read several articles about the potential dust problem in
trailers so I do one of two things. For long trips I get tripled screen
shavings and put it in. I remove it after the trip or when I think it is
getting ground down or dusty. Or I use ABM bedding which is a pelleted
bedding. I use that for bedding anyway so I usually have it. I thought at
first it might be slippery but the horses haven't complained : ). That
gets ground down too (it is supposed to) at which point I take it out of
the trailer and put it in the stalls. Or if I want to extend the use of it
in the trailer I wet it down in the trailer as it is designed to get wet.
It is extremely absorbent so getting it moist to keep the dust down will
still allow its to soak up urine. If the horses pee on it in the trailer
you can just stir the wet stuff into the dry and leave it. It is designed
to work that way. That is what I do in the stalls until I can tell that
the wet spots need to be removed.
