Re: [RC] CTR as part of AERC? (was: 3-day 100) - Elizabeth Walker

OK, I will try not to get down into the controversy. I'll just say that I have been battling a leg problem on Caisson for the last year that was most likely caused by a tripping incident, and which would most likely have been totally prevented if I had put splint boots on him that day.

NATRC doesn't allow protective boots, that is true, that's one of the founding principles of NATRC, to encourage use of horses that are well suited for trail riding. In other words, a horse that doesn't interfere or forge. I've never used any kind of protective boots, because my horses don't need them. They also add extra weight and more stress to the leg and hoof.

Personally, I think that is a good goal to have, and to encourage, a horse with good conformation. This leads, however, into the whole boot controversy, where I don't want to go. ;-)
