Re: [RC] CTR as part of AERC? (was: 3-day 100) - Truman Prevatt

It probably makes more sense in the MW where the rides are smaller to start than say the SE were our rides are getting larger and even ridecamp space for endurance is become a problem.

In regions with small rides running CTR's with endurance rides makes a lot of sense to help ride managers. I don't think the AERC needs to recognize them in any formal way - they just need to not do anything dumb that would prohibit them from being run along with the endurance rides.

The best thing I see the AERC doing is to not make any rules that could be interpreted as not permitting and changes any current rules that might impact such co use of the trails, vets, ridecamp, etc. so such events can be run and otherwise leave the CTR organizations to run their own business.

There you hit the potential advantages to the AERC, the riders and the Ride Manager.

Because rides have high fixed costs, the extra fees from more riders help the finances. Many families have members who do only one or the other sport, thus they can satisfy all members with one trip. Many folk participate in more rides, generating more ride fees, because they ride twice in a weekend.

By seeing how the other half does things riders learn, or decide to do another sport when they would not have gone to see the other sport if it was not on the same venue.

For a smidge of additional record keeping the AERC would get more sanction fees, and memberships.
