Re: [RC] 3 day 100's - rides2far@xxxxxxxx

and know that most take better care of the horse when someone is going to
take points off. And unless you are top ten you are not treating your horse
the same as if you were going to be judged closely. You are not getting all
the grime off your horse before you are loading >>>>them on the trailer to
go home for instance.

Wow, I definitely have to disagree with this. Maybe I didn't get the grime off
of my horse because on a cold day I look at those who are obsessed with a
bathed horse and think it is cruel and they might not be so eager to be hosed
down themselves. Of course...if somebody is judging you on how CLEAN your horse
is (not a big priority to a horse by the way) you have to bath them, even if
it's the wrong thing to do on that day. Heck, one of the reasons I take extra
time to vet in much of the time is that I try to sponge all the grime off I can
before it hardens up during a vet check...but I don't do it if it's a cold
day...just get the parts that touch tack even if it pains me to see him that
grungy.

I wait on my horses hand and foot. I am constantly doing for them. There's
nobody here taking off points...it's just an obsession. Haven't run up front in
a while but still back there in the back acting as if the fate of the free
world depended on my horse completing. Thing is, my idea of what's best may not
be the same as some CT judge's...and what makes them more qualified to judge
than me? By the way, spent 45 minutes this morning with a book on massage
propped up on the wall of the stall, standing on a stool, trying to work on my
horse. My thumbs are sore. Nobody gave me any points for it...so why on earth
did I do it? Because the HORSE is the final judge in my opinion and I'm trying
to do what he will prove was the right thing.

Odd, I thought the multi-day rides (both 30s and 50s) were very popular and well attended, with many of the horses doing 3-5 days without lameness, girth galls or other sores. Everyone I know will go to the vet for the slightest problem that they detect with their horse, be it a cut or scrape from a slip or fall or just not acting quite right. NO ONE I know just hopes no one will notice or turns their horses out and hope they are healed by the next ride.   Is it just the 3-day CTR 100s that have dwindling attendance?  Is that your complaint here or are you just saying that riders don't know how to take care of their horses because they didn't come up thru CTR and do 3-day 100s?? Not a flame, just curious about the basis of this post.

I think that some of the reasons that the 3 day rides have lost interest is that we have brought our juniors and our novices up in endurance.  First with the LD’s and then if they are good and want to go on they enter the 50 mile to 100 mile rides

Lets face it, it is easier to set up, vet in, ride, vet out, and go home.  Don’t flame me I have been on both sides and know that most take better care of the horse when someone is going to take points off. And unless you are top ten you are not treating your  horse the same as if you were going to be judged closely. You are not getting all the grime off your horse before you are loading them on the trailer to go home for instance. You are hoping that girth galls, maybe a slight lameness, or scrapes are going to heal enough before you need the horse to compete in a couple of weeks.  AND you hope no one notices.  There are a few that will go to the vet to check out something that shows up but there are very few.
