Re: [RC] FITS 100 60 miles - Maryanne Gabbani

That assumes that FEI supervision of rides is equal in all countries, an assumption that I have some problems with.

I'll still go with the second two.

I understand their rationale. Since riders are the FEI championships are in general running hard and they have had fatalities and rides with a significant number of treatments they want to insure the horses that compete are prepared what is potentially being asked of them. In fact I think that is a pretty noble goal. They must feel that in order to accomplish that the horses need to prove themselves in a progression of distances - that I also think is a noble goal and a good thing to do.

If it is done at an FEI ride they can be sure that the courses are the correct distances and the ride is run under the same set of rules and conditions that they would expect to see at championship rides. A good argument could be made of this stand.

I think that is where the rub is. It significantly impact riders in the US and probably other countries. I personally it is a good move on the part of the FEI. The issue might be the time frame over which it is implemented over. There also might be a compromise where some of the shorter distanced could be AERC sanctioned but FEI approved rides the and 100 be required to be FEI. On the other hand to play Devils advocate - why should the FEI make special exceptions for one set of countries but not others?

I actually think the move by the FEI is a positive move for the welfare of the horses that are going to be asked to put the hammer down in a FEI championship ride. It's implementation is just a bit messy.
