Re: [RC] Truck Gurus - Elizabeth Walker

Yes, I did, but thanks anyway.  :)  I have a bumper pull, though, which changes things a bit.  Goosenecks put the trailer weight over the rear wheels, but with a bumper pull, it is better to make the trailer as light as possible; unload the horses, and if that doesn't do it, then start shifting stuff from the trailer into the bed of the truck - and start cussing because you didn't buy the 4x4.....

If you do get into soggy, muddy, or snowy, etc. conditions, just put weight in the bed, or if you're hooked up to a trailer, that extra weight on the rear drive wheels will help a lot.  You probably already know that, but just in case ... :-)

Sounds pretty nice.  I'm *not* a truck guru, but the 8.1L gas has about the same pulling capacity as the 6.6L diesel, so I think you are probably OK in that area.  However, there are two gear ratios for the gas, I believe, a 3.73 and a 4.1(?).  Real truck gurus could tell you which is better.

I just bought one this weekend as well.  Good price, but I couldn't find anything with a 4x4 in my price range, so it is 2 wheel drive, regular cab.  Guess I won't be trying to drive anywhere that is soggy or muddy.  :)

OK, time to eat crow. I'm looking at trucks. Got the news I'm not on the list of lay-offs so why not buy a truck? >g<

Here's the deal. I've found the following:

VEHICLE DETAILS
New/Used:       U
Year:   2002
Make:   GMC
Model:  2500HD
Mileage:        83,455
Type:    CLASS 2 (GVW 6001 - 10000)
Category:       Pickup

VEHICLE DESCRIPTION
2002 GMC 2500HD, 2002 GMC 2500 HD EXTENDED CAB 4X4 4DOOR SLT PACKAGE WITH VORTEC 8.1L V8 GAS AND 5 SPEED ALLISON AUTOMATIC. HEATED LEATHER BUCKET POWER SEATS IN FRONT, AM/FM/CD/CASSETTE/ON-STAR, DARK GREEN WITH TAN LEATHER. TOWING PACKAGE WITH BOTH RECEIVER HITCH AND FLUSH MOUNTED GOOSENECK BALL IN BED, STAINLESS STEEL ASSIST STEPS AT THE CAB, ALUMINUM WHEELS, EXHAUST TIPS, VENT VISORS AND BUG SHIELD...VERY ATTRACTIVE TRUCK. OWNED AND MAINTAINED BY GM TECHNICIAN...TIRES ARE NEARLY NEW...LESS THAN ONE-THOUSAND MILES.
COLD AIR INTAKE INSTALLED AND K & N AIR FILTER ALL TO HELP BOOST POWER AND CONSERVE FUEL...IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR SOMETHING TO PULL UP TO 15K POUNDS WITHOUT BUSTING THE BANK YOU FOUND IT!!!

My trailer is a 3 horse aluminum Exiss with the extra 2' on the living area. Not much added weight with the living area improvements.

Now..the standard HD comes with a 6.0 L 300 hp V8 and 4 speed automatic overdrive.

This one has Vortec 8.1L V8 gas and 5 speed Allison Automatic

Is this something I *want*? (I like the sound of it)  Will I get lower gas mileage? I haven't had any trouble towing this rig with a 1994 3/4 ton GMC.
