Re: [RC] Permanent trail marker materials - Dolly Miller
On the LBJ Grasslands trails people
liked to collect the painted ones. We had pretty colors .....red, blue,
yellow, silver and white.
When we first started using shoes, my husband and I put up 1 mile of
red shoes on Saturday and went back on Sunday and that mile of shoes
were gone. After that we drilled out the holes so we could use large
nails and that did help. Some were still stolen but they had to work at
it to get the shoes. It was a lot of work to drill 3 holes on each shoe
for 75 miles of trail. I'm not putting up anymore shoes, we're just
painting now. Less work and they haven't stolen the trees yet.

"...who might snitch horse shoes...."
That was part of the reasoning in using used horseshoes and painting =
them a bright yellow.
