This happened a dozen or so years ago--just wanted to point out that they are 
not always symptomatic.

No, this doesn't have to do with stomach ulcers--the gutteral pouches are up in 
the back of the throat, and hence communicate with the nasal passages, so blood 
from them comes out the nose.
