[RC] cantering - dmartin1

thank you to all for the timely reminder about continuing the LSD for my horse.  I have been riding him about 8 months and started only walking then worked up to trotting then to very little cantering.  I have chosen to ride with only slower riders up until this point but I am secretary of an upcoming CTR and while marking and setting up the trail this past week I found myself riding with two good friends whose horses have much more conditioning and natural speed than my own and was ending up cantering more than I have before.  He seemed to move easily at the canter while they trotted their big Arab trots and really struggled to keep up if I held him at the trot.  I was embarrassed to keep asking them to slow down and both times ended up pulling off the trail early and going back to the trailer with an excuse that I had to get home to the kids.  I will continue to put Kobe first and concentrate on conditioning at the pace I will be competing at this year which is Novice CTR (average 4mph).   Thanks so much!!!
