[RC] Raising Horse for Slaughter - kathy swigart

Ed said:

I am subject to correction, but due to the poor feed conversion
?efficiency of the horse, I can't see them being raised only for
?slaughter.? Iceland may be an exception to this.?

I am willing to be corrected on this as well, but it is my understanding that
Iceland does not raise horses for slaughter either, they are just more willing
to move their horses out of the "working horse"?population and into the food
chain.?

The horses that get slaughtered are the culls.

There may be other areas also, but surely not in Europe.

And as far as I know, that is the way that all horses are raised in almost all
areas, because yes, horses are way to inefficient of feeders to be an
economically viable source of meat if that was your sole intent.
