But, yes, you are right about the reprimand. The owner should have smacked the holy c**p out of that mare...and if she didn't, then the OP should have.

I know some riders that made a practice of each carrying a pommel bag filled with horse treats. They made a game out of letting the other horse reach for the bag
and then be given a treat. Fine, until the "grabby" horse got to nipping at the rider's nearby knee. And then reaching at any other rider's pommel bag/ knee.


After I was nearly bitten I made the following statement, "If your horse reaches for me again, I will smack her. If it happens another time I will hit you"
Glad to say it never happened again while I was around, I think they quit it altogether.
We are all still friends.
