RE: [RC] Looking for a kid safe endurance prospect - RHONDA LEVINSON

But, sometimes you get lucky.  I bought a mare at an auction for $200 who has been the BEST kid's/beginner's mount on the face of the earth.  She was 18 at the time and had lunatic owners who said she wasn't broke (because they didn't want to get sued if someone rode her and got hurt).  They were selling her because they thought she was barren (lunatics, as I said and didn't bother to check their pasture for fescue before dumping the mare at auction).  'Course I only bought what was advertised as a barren, unbroke 18 year old mare at auction because I am also something of a lunatic.  LOL.

What is true about what everyone else is saying, though, is that I would not re-sell this mare for any amount of money.  The people who sold her at auction offered to buy her back from me when they realized that she was not barren (she had a foal at my place).  They offered me 10 times my money for her and I turned it down.  It is just so hard to find a horse that three kids can ride bareback anywhere in a halter.

Amen Diane,

I had the same reaction, BUT, I get calls nearly every day from people wanting to know if the rescue has any horses with all the traits listed.  Before I can respond, they say something like "I cannot afford to pay much for the horse".  So I just chalked it up to another novice request.  Just makes me CRAZY!

Personally, I own one of these myself, a wonderful, gentle, "take care of you" horse and I have said, on more than one occasion, that he could not be bought for $25,000.
