[RC] Progressive Ethmoid Hematoma - Michael Lewis

I have a wonderful mare who has been diagnosed with the condition listed in the title of this message. Unfortunately, she does not seem to have responded well to treatments of this condition and it is upsetting that I cannot use her for Endurance at this time. I intend to discuss future options for treatment and prognosis with my veterinarian, but was wondering if anyone here can comment on past experiences with this condition and how their horse responded to treatment.

We have tried injections to shrink/remove the mass, but her bloody nose (from the nostril where the tumor resides) persists so I have effectively spent about $800 or more for no real gain. As I understand, the only other option is laser treatment.

Again, I expect to discuss this with my vet next time I see her... just wishing for a "warm fuzzy" in the hopes I can return this mare to service in Endurance.

Only other option would be to breed her... so would love folks' thoughts on how to pick a stallion as well (I am sure there are BOOKS written on THAT subject!!)

Looks like I'll be starting a new mare on LDs till Molly is "fixed"... can't seem to break out of that dadgummed LD bracket no matter how hard I try!

Thanks kindly,

Michael
