[RC] Tank heater advice - melanie . o

Hello Ridecampers:

It's that time of year again, time to plug in the tank heaters.  There has been light ice in the tank for the last two weeks and storms are predicted for the long weekend, so I think the long, warm days of autumn are over.

My problem is that last winter I suddenly had no power to the garage/barn/pasture.  The landlord tried to fix everything he could but stopped short of digging up the concrete driveway to chase the buried line.  I broke ice twice a day all winter long and it sucked!

This year I'm thinking about moving the tank close to the house and just running an extension cord from the house to the tank heater.  I've heard this isn't a good idea, but I don't know that I have any other option for power.  Any thoughts on making this work?  Especially regarding keeping things dry.

thanks,
melanie
