[RC] training and bad behavior - Melissa Margetts Ms. Kitty

Hey Tori, You funny girl! Yes Cabo pastured with a mountain lion and bears, but that also was why I had that question about training. Cabo didn't me come to me that way. He was GIVEN to me precisely because he was described as a raw exposed nerve and was a liability to the owner. He only got to be cool, level headed and reliable in even the most chaotic situations only after tons of time spent working on getting and keeping his attention, trust and respect without loosing his fire. We have a mutual understanding and agreement that if he were to ever even THINK about dumping me for any reason other than because he is engulfed in flames or has a rabid badger attached to his leg, his new name would be Elmers! Now I wont beat him to death mind you, but he'd be livin next to the badger pen for days or months till he's over being afraid of it. But shoot, different horse, different set of circumstances. You're right, it might just be an Arab thing too. I understand that very horse, like every person, is an individual with their own qualities, flaws and baggage. It WOULD be interesting to know if this crazy, bad behavior was shown at the WEC across all country lines and if there were representatives of the top finishing riders from the UAE, Qatar, and Bahrain, limping around on the ground too trying to chase down their horses after getting dumped. Does any particular country have a reputation for bringing not only the fastest horses but best behaved ones too? I would love to hear more from those who have actually attended and can give us their insight. Steph? John? or especially those who actually were riding the guys who rode these horses and know them best. Hopefully we will hear more from Kathy soon. A few months ago there were some interesting posts on here with videos of some Egyptian trainers and their endurance horses and the different training techniques THEY use.
