[RC] Leg protection in cactus country - Randy or Cheryl Winter

I will be going to Arizona for a month this winter and taking two horses
with me. As I just had one horse go through 12 weeks of an infected leg
from a cactus spine that got stuck in her leg just about the coronet band, I
am looking for ways to avoid that again.
For those people who live in cactus country do you have any leg protection
other than the standard splint boots that you like to minimize the risk?
Also if you do get into cactus, any special ways to remove them if it is
more than just a spine or two. I have heard to carry a fine tooth comb to
be able to get between the cactus and the leg to get it off. Any ideas out
there.

Cheryl
