Re: [RC] New incentive to enter 100's - Don Huston

Count me in with those opposed to any kind of partial credit. It's a sport. Nobody gets to quit when they are ahead, you have to finish the game. Can you imagine an NFL team quitting the game after 3 quarters because they are ahead but are afraid they might lose in the fourth? That whole topic is sickening.

I do have a suggestion for 100 mile rides that might help encourage participation. The RM might plan the ride to include a seasoned 100 mile team (horse and rider) that is willing (bribed with low ride fee) to ride slow and steady and who has ridden the trail before and can hopefully remember it in the dark. This team would be willing to let anyone who wants to ride with them, answer questions, keep from getting lost, keep from going too fast or slow, etc. Not exactly a mentor because people riding a 100 should already be seasoned 50 milers and capable of taking care of themselves. More like a guide that you know you can join up with if you feel a little unsure riding into the night or your horse is getting bummed out being alone etc.

A good example is Trilby Peterson. I know she guided many groups of riders thru Tevis. Had I stayed with her group in 96 when I tried Tevis, I probably would not have been pulled for overtime at Franciscos.
