Re: [RC] [RC] goals/completion award idea - Dawn Carrie

Having had kidney stones twice myself (once rode the last 35 miles of a 55 while passing one...not fun!), I know how painful they are.  My advice is to make sure you're drinking *plenty* of water before, during, and after the ride.  Don't forget to continue chugging after you're done.  If a person is particularly susceptible to stones, and it sounds like you are, you need to make sure you keep hydrated.  So drink enough that you're having to pee every hour, and your pee is clear.  Yes, watch the color, just like you do your horse's pee.  :)  There may also be diatary changes you can make...check with your doctor.

Hi! My goal this year is to try and finish qualifying for the Nationals in year 2009(Greenville, CA) on my horse, Junior Bill without getting kidney stones(myself) after every 50 miler. YUCK!  What's up with that?  Ginger

That and my recent trip to the grocery store got me thinking about completion awards. In the interest of " going green" I have started to bring tote bags to the store for the baggers to use for the groceries. One of those totes is from last years AERC convention. I would love to have a choice of a T shirt or a basic tote with the ride logo on it to add to my tote collection. Diane Fruth gave totes out one year at the Land Between the Lakes ride which have the logo on them. Anyway, just a thought, and it would be a nice completion gift that the ride managers wouldn't have to worry about sizes.
