       for the Doctor-Patient Relationship

                         Fall Quarter Dates are:

      Wednesdays, October 1, 8, 15, 21, and 29
                       12:30 PM – 2:30 PM

     at beautiful Webb Ranch, 10 minutes from campus

                          Limit 8 students

This elective teaches interpersonal skills and bedside manner by enacting
metaphors for patient care in interactions with our gentle horses.

The course includes a field trip to the National Center for Equine Facilitated
Therapy
in Woodside, the nation’s premier hippotherapy and therapeutic
riding
clinic for children with severe neuromuscular conditions and autism, and
for adults with, e.g., multiple sclerosis, rheumatoid arthritis, and stroke.

No horse experience needed. Gradual introduction to horses. No tests or papers.
1 Unit credit. May be eligible for CME/CEUs.

While med students and PA students are given first priority, the course is also
open to house staff, nurses, practicing physicians, psychotherapists,
and any one else with direct patient care responsibility.
