Some of you have heard the sad news that my husband, Steve's horse, CV Czlen Sam was euthanized late Saturday night due to colic while I was crewing at Swanton. Sam was a great horse, a good companion and carried a HW rider with alacrity and grace.

What has surprised some of my horse friends is that it was caused by an
overconsumption of beet pulp. To a person they have all said, "gee,
I didn't think beet pulp could ever cause colic." Well, I'm sad to
say it can. Sam got into and ate the better part of a bag of pulp which
expanded and caused a rupture. Lock up those bags of beet pulp like you
would all other grains.

Sam will be missed.
