[RC] Swanton? finale was AWESOME!!! - Cynthia LeDoux-Bloom

We missed you, Lucy. Especially going up Powerhouse Grade at mile 91 at
2:00 AM.

It is a tough, long 100. There were a few times when I asked God and
Kosmos to tell me that we were off trail and didn't really have to go up
or down that hill, but was wrong. There are few rests on this ride. It
is 95% up or downhill, or hard packed road, or rocky creek bottom. We
were all blessed by the cool weather!

Lud and Barb and the McCrary clan ended an era in style this weekend!
Great trails with sweeping views of Monterey Bay under moonshimmer to the
Saratoga Mountain sunrise. I am dreaming of future multi-day rides around
those parts with Barb riding us from now on. Eric, Emily and I felt our
heartstrings pull at the idea of moving back home to Santa Cruz after this
ride. We rode through redwood and poison oak forests, and lots of
steelhead filled creeks. I had forgotten about Santa Cruz's unique old
growth poison oak forest habitat, even brought some home on my #$%,
Waddell Creek strain, I believe.

Barb recalled that about 60 riders started the 100 with about 40 in the
75. Thirty-seven finished the 100, including Kosmos and I at ~3:30 AM in
23rd or 26th place. Jeanette Mero won the 100, BCed the ride, and heard
she set a record making it back to Swanton before dark. I think Melissa
Ribley was 2nd and the last few riders came in very close to 5:00AM.
Michelle Roush BCed the 75 miler. There were two horses treated at the
first vet check and one rider sadly pulled at the finish. The vets were
wonderful all day and night long! There were two great guys who finished
the 100 mile ride and tie who Scott Griffen and I ran with for a while.
Wow, they were very amazing and both looked great and mobile at the
breakfast.

Cynthia and Kosmos (SJ Kerensky), the 4 for 4 100 mile wonder horse.
