Re: [RC] "Feeding the Hoof"- Just Curious - Patti

Hay testing and getting a custom supplement made becomes cost effective if you're able to buy/store
about 3-4 month's worth of hay (minimum). If you can't do that, you can often get regional information about the
major deficiencies/excesses in your area.
Some hay brokers have hay analyses run, as do some hay growers. Area cattle/goat/sheep farmers often have
area hay analysis information (these folks have been doing this for years and years).
I've also seen people become pretty creative when they want to store larger quantities of hay (ranging from arranging
field storage with a farmer to moving the car out of the garage).

But just learning the basics - minimum requirements, how to read and interpret labels, etc. -  makes it so much
easier/economical/smarter even when buying and relying on commercial feeds and supplements - takes some of the "W-A" out of the WAG.
