Re: [RC] Western WA (Seattle-ish) Horse needs home or place to hang out for a while - Barbara McCrary

At over $20 per bale, it's likely the cost of hay.

This is so tragic. I'm seeing more and more of this all the time too. Not sure what's driving it . . . hay prices, just sheer irresponsibility? What is it? It makes me sick. It's probably a good thing I don't have any land or I'd be sorely overpopulated with unwanted horses because I'm a HUGE sucker for the "unwanted." My dream is to one day open a sanctuary for unwanted, old and neglected horses that just need a healthy, happy place to live out their lives. Unfortunately, it will probably never happen as I just don't have the financial resources it takes to provide for them. I have my Arab mare, one rescued Leopard Appy, and my hubby has his Paint. That's all we can handle right now. No wonder so many end up at the slaughter house! It's all about irresponsible owners!! (Well, not in EVERY case, I realize some people get hit with circumstances out of their control). GAAAAA!

It's really sad, so sorry for your situation. Entirely understandable.

What is NOT understandable is this situation below, it looks like
they're in Mountain Home, Utah:

Ok... I have to say that I am really really ashamed to be posting this
ad. It's for my grandparents. They are going to the Philippines for
two years so they need to get rid of all their horses. Whatever they
don't find new homes for they are sending to the humane society. You
can tell why I'm so embarrassed of having to post this ad but my aunt
and I are desperately trying to find these horses new loving homes.
They all need lots of work. My grandparents have just let them sit in
350 acres for years so they're really fat and in need of work. My
grandparents live 3 hours away so none of the kids or grandkids have
been able to get up there to help work the horses on a regular basis.
The horses are all super friendly, even the studs. They love human
attention they just need a lot of work.
And this I don't understand by my grandpa wants $200 for the purebreds
because they are registered, he'll give them away for free without
their papers. I don't understand while he puts a price on them when if
they don't sell he's just going to send them to the humane society.
The only PB mare left is a bay mare Octavia. I'm not sure how old she
is... I believe now she is around 10 years, give or take. She is a
proven broodmare. Awesome mother and has gorgeous babies. She's a
little shorter, about 14.1. I'm not entirely sure on her bloodlines
either. I know she's bred Polish on her top side with *Bask and her
dam's line is Egyptian.
There are 3 PB studs. All are full brothers to Octavia and all are
gray and absolutely Gorgeous!! Spook is a rose gray and is the typiest
thing I have ever seen. Jafar and Rabiz are really light rose grays.
Rabiz is the sweetest thing. He has two black dots on his muzzle that
are even so he looks like he has a pigs nose. They are about 10-15
years I believe.
They have a LOT of Half-Arabians. Whatever is not registered sure can
be. My grandparents don't believe in registering their half-Arabians.
But there are a lot of broodmares that are absolutely wonderful. A
couple grays, dark black bay, chestnuts.
There are also really nice geldings. Traveler is around 10 years old.
Half-Arabian Half-Appendix, he's a gorgeous chestnut and has been
started under saddle 2 years ago but hasn't had much work since. One
of the mares Annie, the dark black bay has also been started under
saddle about 2 years ago.
They also have a couple mustang mares that aren't theres but someone
dumped on their property. We think they just came off the range since
they are more spooky around people. Both are gorgeous though and have
had absolutely gorgeous half-Arabian foals!
Please someone give these horses a loving home! They are so wonderful
and have SO SO much potential!!!!<<

I am still trying to find someone to give my lovely sweepstakes
gelding a good home or take him on a care lease for at least a year.
If that can't happen, is there someone with safe affordable pasture
(100/month) where I can place him until my back heals and my medical
bills are under control? He is currently in Everett/Snohomish and
I'm living in Issaquah. Can anybody help me avoid sending him to an
animal shelter. I can't bear the thought but if I can't afford
board anymore I don't know what else to do... If you can help or
know of anybody that can. I need a miracle.
Thanks
Linda
