[RC] Tahoe National Forest Route Designation Meeting - Horseraser

FYI
Micki

Equestrian groups and individuals:

You are invited to attend a meeting on TUESDAY, JULY 29th in AUBURN at

SIZZLER Restaurant from 7pm to 9pm.  The address is 13570 Lincoln Way,

Auburn.  Please plan to come early and eat at 6:30.  See directions below.

This meeting is sponsored by Backcountry Horsemen of California (BCHC),

Mother Lode Unit, regarding the Tahoe National Forest.  BCHC feels it is

important you are aware the Forest Service is in the process of developing

an Off-Highway Route Designation Project to be put into effect for the

Tahoe National forest.  While the title of this project would lead you to

believe it is only about keeping OHV's from abusing the forest, it is not.

The rules for dispersed camping/parking will be changing when the FS

implements their project.  (See Attached).  If you have been used to

dispersed camping/parking in the forest you may be surprised to learn you

will be severely restricted under the one vehicle length rule.  This rule

will force you to keep your vehicle no more than one vehicle length from

the road or trail unless you go to a developed campsite/staging area.

Dispersed camping/parking as it has always been practiced will be

classified as Cross Country Travel and will be illegal, subject to

citations and fines.  You can see the importance of this issue and why we

urge you to attend this meeting.  All equestrians need to be involved in

the Forest Service's decision and they need to know we have a stake in an

equitable outcome.  Please contact me and committ to coming; phone 530

626-8589 or email address: claudia55ball@xxxxxxxxxx  We need to have at

least 20 people committed to eating dinner there for the restaurant to let

us exclusively use the private room.  Dan Marus of Backcountry Horsemen of

California will be leading the meeting and the discussion.  We would like

to know which trails people use and what their concerns and issues are

with Tahoe NF, as well as the FS's Travel Management Plan.  Thanks for

your help.
