Re: [RC] [RC] hauling - Truman Prevatt

Welcome back Debbie. Glad to see you and that crazy flatland sand trained horse did fine in the mountains.

As far as hauling. I've hauled from FL to Northern Idaho and of course back. I've hauled from FL to Utah and back. I've hauled from FL to CO and back and I've hauled from FL to WY and back. I've hauled from MI and back. I've also done the long hauls (two days) we sometimes have in the SE to get to rides.

Bottom line once our horses get on in the morning they stay on. We stop every two to three hours for 15 minutes or so to let the dogs pee, let us pee and let the horses rest. The horses always have hay in front of them. At stops they have water in front of them the whole time we are stopped. If it's meal time they get fed.

Our horses will pee in the trailer. They will drink if they need to. They munch on hay - actually go through a lot of hay. I'd rather give them breaks but get to where we are going for the night so they can get out unwind and relax. I also tend to break up trips with an off travel day here an there, e.g. two long days followed by a rest day.

Truman
