Re: [RC] rubbing alcohol - Don Huston

Hello Chrystal,

Alcohol does have a cooling effect on my skin but it is short lived so I imagine it is the same on the horse. It is also expensive at $1 for 16oz in SD. I just use water.

The best use I've found for alcohol is for finding hot spots on the horse. By hot spots I mean places on the skin that are warmer than the surrounding skin. If I suspect that a leg or shoulder or back is sore I put the horse out of the sun and pour alcohol all over the area and watch it dry. The warmest (can indicate soreness) areas dry the fastest. Then I palpate those dry areas for soreness.

Is rubbing alcohol still legal in AERC ( to use in water for cooling) ???

Has anyone tried it? Notice a difference in cooling???  Pro's and cons???

Thanks

Chrystal :-)
