who was the vet (maybe send his/her name to the vet committee privately?)

It seems to me that AERC certified vets would be aware of their options at that point. AERC is attempting to be pro-active (as exemplified by the article Katrina quoted) but there is always training and refinement to be done (if we all want to make the system better:)
