RE: [RC] trailer loading issue - Rae Callaway

What kind of shavings did you use that caused dust to fly around the
trailer? I use the large shaving and I've ridden back there and have never
seen dust flying around. I have several horses that will not pee in a
trailer without the shavings (they don't like splatter, I guess), so for
long trips, it's kind of a must have for me.

Subject: [RC] trailer loading issue

O.k. - so I worked with my gelding on the trailer loading thing today.
This is what i see: He steps up into the trailer with the front feet and
they both slide forward. This is on a bare floor (I do not use shavings
in the trailer) So, now he is worried already about loading. He takes it
nice and easy, doesn't rush it. He then wants to hop up with the hind end
only because he is worried about hitting his hind shins on the back of
the trailer again because he just did it because his front feet slid so
far out in front. My gelding has under-run feet in the front. which
causes his toe to be longer than average. I have spent years of
"corrective shoeing" on this horse. But his heels just wont grow.
Anyways, he slips just walking out on grass too! his front feet will just
slide out right in front of the poor guy. This has always been an issue
with shoes on anyways. So, what do I do? I will not use shavings anymore
because when I did, both horses would have a bad cough all the time from
the dust blowing around in the trailer .Also, it encouraged them both to
pee in the trailer!
