Re: [RC] [RC] Rider weight vs horse size - SHEILA A WALSH

Thank you, diane. Well said. Of course I am feeling chubby these days so anything I hear that is positive for being a rider and not a passenger..........

As Winston Churchill said, "No hour of life is wasted that is spent in the saddle." As Shakespear wrote in Henry V, "When I bestride him, I soar, I am like a hawk; he trots the air, the Earth sings, when he touches it; the basest horn of his hoof is more musical that the pipe of Hermes."

When I first started to take riding lessons, my instructor told us that there were "riders" and there were "passengers". If you are a "rider", even if you weigh 130#, you can ride a Shetland Pony over fences. If you are a 130# "passenger", even a 15 hand horse won't be happy with you in the saddle.
