Re: [RC] LD weird logic and future repercussions to those who start LD debate! :-) - Barbara McCrary

We find it very successful to serve a lovely big breakfast on Sunday morning when most riders are still in camp. Were I to go back to managing a 50, I think I would not serve an awards meal at all, because so many riders pack up and go before the dinner. I hate feeling like I've gone to extra work to present a nice catered dinner and have people loading their horses and driving out while I'm trying to present awards in a special manner of recognizing riders' accomplishments. I end up feeling resentful, a useless emotion at best. Were I to manage a 50 again, I would be at the finish line, ready to check which riders were passed by the vet at the finish VC, and I would be prepared to hand out awards so people could go home as they wished. Furthermore, with postage at an all-time high, I think I would make it known that I would not mail awards unless the rider sent me the cost of postage. All these little things add up so much, and we have kept our entry fees quite low, compared to some.

That being said, on the rides where I offer a 100, we might have a pot luck
in the evening at the vet check to greet the 80s and 100s, but no official
meal. And we don't do the awards until Sunday morning. If you leave early,
you can pick up your shirt, or whatever. I give the 100 awards out first so
they have their pick of size or type or whatever. And I've seen a lot of
RMs doing this out here.

So we try to give consideration to the longer distances and acknowledge
their accomplishment as being different than others by trying to treat them
at least as well:)

Can I have a break on AERC
fees under your logic?
