Re: [RC] [RC-Digest] Vol: 03.5996 - Melinda Faubel

I wear a Troxel helmet WITHOUT the GPS system.  I too have long wavy hair that I keep in a ponytail when riding.  The helmet I currently wear is a Troxel Dakota.  When I bought it (2006) it had a harness with a pony tail port, but no GPS.  It fits perfect.  Light weight, doesn't sqeeze, doesn't get hot, can wear a pony tail....can turn my head upside down without buckling it and it won't come off.  The problem?  The model now has a GPS system, and fits totally different :(  None of the other Troxels, except the sport model, fits me well and the sport model won't allow me to wear a pony tail.  With 2 years and close to 25 falls I really need to replace the helmet, but I keep putting it off because I can't find one I like.  I tried the new Tipperarys at the Horse Expo and their new design actually fits me head now (the old ones didn't) but I didn't like how much heavier and hotter it felt.

Good Luck.

Melinda

Subject: [RC]   Helmet Help from the gals please?

Ok, I have long, really think, wavy hair, that I wear in a ponytail when =
I ride.  I currently have a Tipperary Sportage helmet, but it comes down =
too low and tight at the back and smashes all my hair into the back of =
my neck and itches and makes me too hot.  I feel like ripping it off my =
head.  (The helmet, not my hair :) I have adjusted and re-adjusted the =
pads inside and it just doesn't help.

Does anyone ever ride in a bicycle helmet or have a helmet that is much =
higher up in the back?  I know they make equest riding helmets with =
ponytail ports in them, but those ports don't even look big enough to =
fit my think hair into.  I'm finding myself not wearing my helmet on =
everyday rides because it's too uncomfortable.  Not a good thing.  If =
any of you have a pony-tail-port type helmet, is it helpful?  I wish I =
could make my own!  lol  Any suggestions?
