FYI - if this happens again and there is no one around who can help, there is a way to get those stirrups back on by one's lonesome.


Tie horse to tree (assuming you carry a lead). Take the saddle off and THEN put the stirrup back on. The panels of the saddle don't compress very much while the saddle is still on the horse but do so easily once the saddle is off the horse's back.
