Has anyone had experiences with a horse with arthritis in a stifle joint?  We are currently leasing (and were thinking of buying) a horse and she is having an issue with her stifle joint.  The vet has nerve blocked and X-rayed and isolated a problem in her stifle.  He believes that injecting two of the joints in the stifle will fix the current issue and keep her comfortable for quite some time to follow.  Obviously, we won't actually buy her unless and until she gets sound, but even if she returns to soundness now, I'm concerned about the long term because we tend to keep our horses until they die of old age.

And before everyone tells me just to pass on this particular horse, I have to say that we are already in love with her.  Anyone can ride Chickie Baby, even my son who isn't into horses at all.  Since we have had her, he has actually started riding with me (and even says he enjoys it).  The horse doesn't HAVE to be a competition horse long term.  Ideally, I was looking for a horse for my daughter to compete on for a couple of years, until I have my new horse ready and then my daughter will start riding her paint horse that I have been riding and training.  After that, her only job will be tooling my son and husband around on light rides on the weekends.
