[RC] Eight Belles and Ruffian - Shannon Weil

I just found this alarming fact about Ruffian that was repeated by Eight Belles.

Ruffian had also run 10 races when she was pitched into the tragic match race with Foolish Pleasure.

The Kentucky Derby was Eight Belles? 10th race.

That?s just too many races for 3 year olds!

?On July 6, 1975, Ruffian, undefeated in 10 starts ? setting stakes or track records in most of them ? and having swept the filly Triple Crown, was matched against Foolish Pleasure, the winner of that year?s Kentucky Derby, in a mile-and-a-quarter race at Belmont Park.?

The Thoroughbred racing industry must take a second look at racing two year old horses, they are just too darn young.
