PK Whiskey is 21 this year.  He raced til he was about 10, then had a second career as an endurance horse.  He has 2430 miles, and has completed 3 rides this year.  He was a successful race horse, made lots of money for his owner, too.  That horse is my hero. 

In my earlier post, my point was that I don't think the general public knows that 3 is too young for the hard work involved in getting conditioned and racing.  People have no way of knowing that 3 is young unless they know something about horses.  They think of it like a big dog, and they know dogs are adult (more or less) at about a year.  They know that cows get eaten at about 2, they know that a lot of smaller animals are mature way before the age of 1, so they don't understand what a true tragedy the TB racing industry is.  jeri
