One year when Lud and I were putting on the
Applegate-Lassen ride, I was driving along a graveled road between two fences,
and a Pronghorn antelope came galloping through the sagebrush, jumped the fence,
and ran alongside me for at least a mile, as if challenging me to keep up with
him. Then, after he tired of the game, he turned and jumped back over
the fence and disappeared across the desert.
It was one of the most unusual encounters with wildlife
I've ever had.
We saw several herds of antelope on the trail; in fact, one group,
instead of running away, decided to show off and cross the trail right in
front of us, much to our surprise!
