The last known physical specimen of a California grizzly was shot and killed in Fresno County in 1922.?? They were declared extinct in the state in 1924, I believe. ?Cindy
I'll double-check with Debbie,? but it sure didn't look like a black bear.? I've seen plenty of those, and have also seen grizzly bears at Yellowstone.? This looked like a juvenile grizzly...had a grizzly's dished face, and was longer legged and leaner than a mature one.? No matter.? It still goes into the mental archive as part of a fun experience.
