RE: [RC] Pit Bull Attack - Ranelle Rubin

Sandy,

Sorry..I am not sure if the dog owner was riding or walking, but I rarely see hikers on this trail..in fact cannot remember ever seeing them. The request for support for shared trails in a controlled manner is specific to THIS trail, so that is why I wrote it. sorry for the confusion..glass of wine...you know..

so...what do the bikes have to do with the dog? I didn't read this whole thread, but as far as I am concerned, anyone who has a dog off leash on public property is placing a huge bulls eye on their dog because bike or no bike, if my HORSE doesn't kick an attacking dog into the next solar system, I can help that dog there myself. EGODDD! You have to have  a LICENSE to catch a fish but any idiot can get a dog or have a child. Sick.

D'Arcy,

It happened at Driver's Flat, a nice trail loop between Auburn and Foresthill. I do not believe it was at an organized event. What I heard was the owner of the horse was thrown in the altercation, after the dog latched on to his throat/face/head?. The horse took off, and the owner of the dog would not even give the rider a ride to go look for her horse, but put his dog in the car and took off. Greg Kimler of Echo Valley Feed has a reward for information on the owner of the dog from what I understand. This did come from a reliable source, but I was not there.

For you local riders, is there any interest out there in petitioning the State Park to restrict use of this wonderful loop to horses and bikes on alternating days? I really love this loop, but have stopped riding it because of the Mtn bike traffic on single track, blind corner-type trails. It is so close to where I live, too..so a real shame to not feel comfortable riding there.

While doing a training ride today I overheard a conversation regarding a horse that was attacked in Auburn at a Ride and Tie by a Pit Bull. Does anyone know what this is about or if it is true?  The horse had extensive damage and I'd like to know if there is anyway I can be of any help.
