[RC] The Old Way (was: Spanish Mustangs) - k s swigart

Terry Bannister said:

Just this weekend, a very knowledgable equestrian
friend made the comment that a particular squealey,
kicky mare we ride with should be bred, and that
would take care of her behavior issues. In the old
days, that may have been the simple solution. TIMES
HAVE CHANGED, and this very experienced trainer/
equestrian is still thinking the old way!

Actually, the concept of breeding an unpleasant, squealy, kicky mare to
improve her behaviour issues is actually a very new way of thinking. In
the old days, useless, unmanageable, ill-tempered or unwanted horses
were just shot and eaten (or fed to the dogs).

The concept "Oh no, we cannot just kill the low quality ones, we should
breed them instead," is a the new one.

Indeed, times have changed, and breeding useless horses instead of just
killing them is one of those changes.
