RE: [RC] state fair express unofficial ride results - Karen StandeferHi/low footed horses will not land even and don't have a symmetrical clip-clop, but that doesn't mean they're going to go lame. This discussion makes me think that lameness exams need to be standardized on so that some horses who don't have a perfect way of going are not penalized unless they are truly lame. -----Original Message----- From: heidi@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:heidi@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx] Sent: Monday, March 31, 2008 9:28 AM To: Karen Standefer Cc: ridecamp@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: RE: [RC] state fair express unofficial ride results Not "just" that, no--although that tells you a lot. One also looks for the symmetry of head movement, the evenness of reach and footfall, etc., and if the surface is at all hard, one listens for evenness. I really like examining horses' motion on a firm surface, because often one can HEAR an offness before one can see it. Heidi No virus found in this outgoing message. Checked by AVG.
