Anyone want to tell us everything you ever learned about thoroughpins?

We have a mare with a few rides completed over a couple of seasons  that 
just developed one at age seven. Her vet aspirated it yesterday and injected 
an antibiotic and cortizone (?).  It was exactly the same size after he 
finished as it was before treatment.  He said to ride her hard today.  Not 
knowing how hard "hard" is, we trotted her two miles up hill and walked 
home.  She's sound.

Will this blemish be  a problem in vet checks or effect her career as an 
endurance horse?
