Re: [RC] [RC] Beet Pulp - Beth Walker

It varies according to the supplier, and sometimes within the supplier. I normally use shreds. I think that the feed store I get it from switched sources about a year ago, but I've even noticed a difference between bags. When I first started buying it, there was very little molasses added. Now there is quite a bit - the change was about a year ago, and probably coincided with the change in source. Between two bags, the consistency can be very different. In one bag, things will be pretty OK, and another bag - obviously from the tail end of a run - will have chunks of compressed BP in with the shreds. Not to mention other stuff -- I once found a chunk of asphalt in with the shreds (it was a "chunky" bunch, too).

Frankly, I don't think they spend as much time doing quality control on BP, since it is a "byproduct".

Do you get shredded, or the pellets? I like shreds better, and they
never seem to have very much molasses at all.
