Re: [RC] FEI racing - Steph Teeter

Kat, I can't remember an FEI RACE where every entrant thought they would try to win... The WEC's and continental championships also have team competitions, and probably 80% of the riders are riding for a team medal for their country. They're 'racing' in the sense that they are making their best effort, but only a few are racing with the goal of finishing first.

that said, I do agree that AERC works very well as an enjoyable equestrian sport because there is little pressure to win, or put in a maximum effort. I don't dispute this, and believe we are very fortunate to have a sport where we can have different goals and very little pressure on how we ride. we are tremendously lucky to have this organization.

Will it change FEI Endurance much?? who knows!
It's still a race - but somehow RACING the Tevis or
OD or Florac seems more 'grass roots' than RACING
a primarily flat course with vehicle assistance...

I'll be honest with you. Just the idea of holding an FEI endurance
RACE on a course like the Tevis course gives me the willies. Tevis is
hard enough as it is with 90% of the participants just wanting to finish
the thing. If you had 100+ people entered in a course like Tevis all of
whom were racing for first place, it would be a nightmare.
