RE: [RC] ? To The Feed experts - heidi

Gracious!  Why are you feeding them any grain at all?  There is plenty of "good stuff" in the hay, and the grain is kind of like feeding candy bars to overweight kids...

With adult horses, the flake of alfalfa may not be necessary, either--but start by weaning them off the grain, and see what happens.

Heidi

I have a few questions but first the problem. I have a
Arab who is the worlds easiest keeper..he looks at
feed and gaines weight! He is my endurance horse and I
also hhave a "Husband"horse a Quarter Horse. My horses
are on a dry lot or sand lot and have no grass except
when we haul out to ride we hand graze them for about
30 min. I am have a hard time keeping weight off both
horses. I am feeding them free choice coastal round
bale plus 4 pounds (2 am 2 pm) of a 12% compele sweet
feed and each get one flake of Alafia a day.
So on with the Question... I would like to try the
Corn,Oats,Barley mix..would it have enough of the
"good" stuff in it or should I stay with the complete
feed and cut the hay? Both hosres are in excellent
health and are regularly seen by my vet twice a year
just for over all health. Thank you!
