[RC] FEI Announces Study - k s swigart

From the FEI Annoucement:

"A small International team of respected scientists and veterinary
surgeons (Dr Pat Harris, UK; Dr Hal Schott, USA; Dr Rod Fisher, UK; Dr
Ray Geor, USA) will join me in Dubai next week to carry out the work.
We will be examining weight loss, water consumption, heart function
and looking at changes in the blood during and following the ride.

"This information will form part of the overall review of endurance
being undertaken by the FEI and help ensure we protect the health and
welfare of the horses in this fast developing and highly competitive
sport"<<<

I find it interesting to note that there is no mention of examining the
soundness. Especially since most of the horses that did not complete
the course, didn't do so because they were pulled for being lame.

It is lameness that ends the careers of most performance horses, not
metabolic problems, and if I wanted to ensure "we were protecting the
health and welfare of the horses" the effects of such competition on
long term soundness is where _I_ would be looking.

Maybe that is to be part of the next study?
