RE: [RC] [RC] making your own portable corral - Ranelle Rubin

Mel,

I would be careful with the construction fence stuff..I am assuming you are talking about the orange mesh stuff? I know some folks at a barn I used to board years ago used it to keep horses from sticking their heads through the panels. When that stuff comes loose, all manner of things can get stuck in it..

I have used my portable hot wire, but not often, as I too, don't really trust it, expecially if another horse comes through. My horses have never gone through it, but they are in it for turnouts in areas I don't want to fence at home, but want them to eat the grass. When I have used it at a ride, it is double stranded tape and always on. I have only used it once in the last several years. lightweight steel Corral panels are my choice of late. There is a guy local to me who makes them to fit your needs. If you ask around your area, I am sure you can find someone who does as well.

Good luck.

I am looking for easy, light and easy on the pocketbook. I want a corral for those times that I can't picket.

I have some options.

My hubby is a plumber, I could make a PVC corral but it would get brittle with time. Is there something I could coat it with to keep UV rays from breaking it down?

The good old electric corral. It seems to be the standard in my area but I don't trust it.

A construction/snow fence corral set up with step in posts. That stuff is really strong and durable looking. I figure if I can install no climb fence by myself, I should be able to set up a plastic fencing corral. This is my favorite option right now.

Do any of you have thoughts on which one would be best, or other options?
