If you have more people competing in a weight division, but you also give
out more awards, then it's the same. Per his example, if there are 200 in
LW, they give out 5% or 10 awards. If there are only 100 in HW, they give
out 5% or 5 awards. Thus it's not harder to compete in a division with more
people [though since the max is 10 awards per div it can be harder if there
are >200 in a given division but per Mike this is rare].

If all you are after is an award of some kind, true. If you have your sights set on First Place, there is only one of those, and in general the more people competing for it the harder it is to win.
