RE: [RC] safety vests for riders? - Juli Jakub

You are right...I looked and it does not say anything about being approved...I don't really care...every high level eventer and many of the exercise jockeys and jockeys I know use Tipperary and as I said it has saved my hide a few times. If all the best riders in disciplines where you are hitting the ground with alot more force than most are using them...I'll keep my trust with them. Remember the speeds at which eventers are going as well as jockeys...ever hit the ground at approximately 60 miles per hour...I have...that is how fast you hit the ground after you have come off a horse at full breeze that props to a dead halt sling shotting you over its head...I am still here thanks to my helmet and to my Tipperary. I actually walked away from it albeit slowly! People should buy what makes them happy and if approval ratings make one feel safer than for sure buy an approved vest. I will continue to buy Tipperary whether they rate the vests or not as I personally know they work, find them comfortable, and choose to believe that most of the best riders in some of the fastest, most dangerous of horse sports are not wearing a faulty piece of gear. They also make a very popular vest with bull riders...although many of those crazy guys would still choose to wear nothing! Tipperary probably does not bother to have them approved because they pioneered the safety vest for equestrian sports and people know they work and use them...why waste money of the approval process I guess. JMHO
Cheers,
Juli

Check the tags the next time you put it on. When I went looking no where in the Dover catalog did it say that it was approved. All of the other vests did say they were approved. So if it was, why wouldn't it be listed in the catalog. Lots of show riders wear apparel that is not safety equipment, dressage riders and jumpers wear hats, even though some of them look like helmets. If it doesn't expressly say it is approved, it probably isn't.

Tipperary vests are approved I believe...it is also the vest of choice for
Olympic event riders...I trust them as they are going way fast at very large
solid objects...it is what I used when I evented high level and I can
guarantee it saved my ribs a couple of times. Whatever works I suppose, but
I trust myself to Tiperrary they are the best in the business when it comes
to vests as far as the eventers are concerned. I also find them comfortable
and I have never felt particularly uncomfortably hot in them although
admittedly I have never ridden long distances in one either...just the cross
country course. Cheers,
