[RC] Shoeing with clips - rides2far@xxxxxxxx

My farrier hot shoes and uses side clips. Hot shoeing, according
to him, seats the shoe more securely on the foot. I hadn't heard
about being able to use fewer nails if clips are put on,

I think that if a farrier thinks a non-clipped shoe *requires* 8
nails that's a sign of ignorance in itself. I don't let them put in
more than 6 whether there's clips or not. Had one redneck guy show up
to cover for my farrier whose father had died. He argued with me and
then concluded that I obviously didn't do the rugged sort of riding
*he* did if 6 would do. >g< It was pretty funny. I asked him for an
example of where he considered "tough going". He named off a 5 mile
section of our weekly 21 mile loop. Whew! Boy, had he done a big ride
when he finished *that* at a walk! Bet he rested that horse for a
month. >g<
